Shiroda is a small village located in the Sindhudurg District of Goa. It borders the state of Maharashtra. Shiroda beach is a significant place in the Goan History. Some parts of the Salt Satyagraha movement that was initiated by the father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was carried out here in the Shiroda Beach. It was here where a lot of protestors got arrested for trying to rob salt.
Apart from the crystal clear beaches, Shiroda Village is home to some famous temples such as the Kamakshi Temple and the Rayeshwar temple. The Kamakshi temple is dedicated to the Goddess Kamakhya who is originally a deity from Guwahati Assam. She is also known as Parvati, the companion of Lord Shiva and is known as the Goddess of Peace. The original deity was initially located in Raia, but it was destroyed during some missionary activities. Thereafter the deity was brought to Shiroda.
How to reach the Shiroda Beach
Shiroda beach is located approximately 57 km from Panaji and about 508 km from Mumbai. You can take a flight to the Dabolim airport in Goa and then take a cab or bus to the Shiroda Village. Or else you can travel by train to Sawantwadi which is the nearest railway station the Shiroda Village.
Accommodation in Shiroda Beach
Since Shiroda is a small village, you will not be able to find any luxury hotels with top class facilities. An economy room will cost you about Rs. 500-600 per night. This room is without air conditioning. The weather in Shiroda is mostly pleasant and depending on the month you visit Shiroda, you may not even need an air conditioner. An economy room with air conditioning will cost you approximately Rs. 700-800 per night. A deluxe room will cost you approximately Rs. 1200-1500 a night. There are some luxury suites available here as well and it will cost about Rs. 3800 per night. These suites will not have any 5-star facilities, but will include facilities such as cable television, round the clock room service and a multi-cuisine restaurant.
Some hotels in Shiroda even may organize a sight-seeing trip for you. Also some hotels organize yoga and meditation programs for tourists. These sessions are usually conducted on the beaches in the early mornings. Taking one of these sessions will surely make you feel rejuvenated and invigorated.
